Why Skiathos?
Because Skiathos could truly be the destination of your dreams. In common with most Greek islands Skiathos enjoys a beautiful climate, blue seas and golden beaches. From the moment you land in Skiathos, you will be made to feel at home. English is widely spoken everywhere, from the most sophisticated places to the most traditional tavernas. The opinion of most tourists who have visited and spent some time on the island is that the feeling of welcome and frienliness extended by the local people makes a stay here especially rewarding and memorable.Skiathos is the smallest but most cosmopolitan island of the Sporades group only two hours away from Volos by ferry.
It is the most developed Sporades Island from the point of view of touristy facilities and offers good services, infrastructures and organisations. Even if tourism is a recent phenomenon in Skiathos, it has extended very quickly and the commercialization of the little island has now almost reached the ones of islands like Santorini, Corfu, Mykonos and Rhodes.
The island is famous for its beautiful endless and sandy beaches boarded by dense and verdant pine forest, coming down to the crystalline waters.
Holidays in Skiathos is ideal for those who love exciting nightlife, shopping, crowded beaches, great fun and entertainment. For the visitor seeking a traditional and “Greek” place to enjoy calm holidays, the other Sporades will be a better destination.
Nevertheless, the impressively crowded Skiathos and the heavy touristy atmosphere creating a scene a bit artificial don’t take away the island’s beauty picturesque walks, hidden valleys, a few quitter beaches, caves, sculpting rocks and small coves are the many jewels one can find in Skiathos if he takes time to explore the island.
How to get to Skiathos. There are up to five flights daily from Athens (45 min.) as well as the numerous| charter flights from northern Europe. Skiathos can be reached by either ferryboat (3 to 4 daily - 3 hours) or by hydrofoil (75 min.) from Volos or Ag. Konstandinos. Fares are almost double those on Cyclades or Dodecanese lines. There are also one or two ferries a week from Kimi (5 hours).
Skiathos the last 5 years has become one of the greek islands with very vibrate nightlife.
Considering Skiathos is one of the smallest greek islands you will be surprised by the rich diversity of nightlife. Depending on what you want to experience whist you enjoy your holiday; there is something for everyone.
The Old port has to have the "coolest" selection of bars. Sevensteps and Rock n Roll have music from the 60's through to now; they also have a happy hour from 7pm til 9pm where everything including their delicious cocktails are half price. Moving down the steps is Slip inn and Casablanca the first being a great cafe - good coffee and a great wicked view. Casa plays a mix of dance, funk and old school groove. Further down again is Blue bar & Barfly, both of these play a variety of music and have relaxing outdoor seating (as do most of the bars on the island). Ending this strip is StayCool and Goggas.
The next place of interest is Bar Street, these bars are all indoors and a little more "English" than the old port. High lights on the street include "Chocolate Bar" which has a mix of live music, and Destiny with very cheesy fun music.
If clubbing is what you are after you need to plan your vacation between June and August. The club strip which is located just before the airport, has a carnival feel with gorgeous outdoor areas beside the water.
Best of the bunch is Kahlua, Remmezzo and BBC with lots of dancing and good music. Keep walking and you 'll come to Pink Caddilac and Harley Davidson clubs, these as the name suggest play more Rock music.
There are plenty more clubs, bars and cafes to keep you busy for any holiday including a greek club, Apothiki, which plays only Greek music, you just need to explore.
Beach hopping at Skiathos
With more than 60 beaches to choose from and some of the finest coastal scenery, you are bound to find one to suit your tastes.

The beaches are one of the main reasons for the large number of tourists coming to Skiathos. Most of them have been awarded with the Blue flag by the European Union. What is impressive about the island is that it has many coves and small ports you can reach only by sea, creating private paradises for those yachting. Almost all the beaches are naturally shaded by pine-trees or shrubs and serviced by kiosks, and there is not one which is far from a
hotel or a restaurant. There all manner of water sports available at most of the beaches.
The key factor to be concerned about are crowds and whether or not the beach is clothing-optional. The island's main road, running the length of the island, links Skiathos town to the famous Koukounaries beach, to the west of Koukounaries is Banana beach, Megali Ammos and Vromolimnos are beaches worth to go if you don't mind crowd both of them are close to skiathos town.
Aselinos accesible by a car is a beach worth to go, Agia Eleni beach is a calm place with a cool breeze blowing there almost always.
But definately don't even think of leaving the island without first going to Lalaria and Tsougria. There both a small piece of heaven.Highly recommended.
Children
There are many beaches on the island that are suited to families with children and they include Koukounaries, Megali Ammos, Troulos, Achladia and Vassilias. This is because that they have gentle waters and shelve gently into the sea but just be aware as some of them can shelve quite quickly.
Water Sports
There are various beaches on the island with water sports available on them but if you are to participate on any water sport please check your individual holiday insurance to make sure that you are covered in the event of an accident also please make sure that the instructor on the beach explains to you how to use the piece of equipment that you will use and that you yourself can handle it. Having said this the beaches that do water sports are Koukounaries, Vromolimnos, Megali Ammos and many more may have water sports in smaller capacity. There will be a range from pedalos to motorised activities.
Naturalists
There is one beach on the island called Banana beach and this has a small part that its for the above and it is away from the main Banana Beach which used to be all naturalists.
